Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903)

Charles Godfrey Leland was an American educator, folklorist, and novelist. Above all, he was an avid and lifelong wonder-gatherer.

“I was borne by a mysterious inner impulse which I could not resist into this terrible whirlpool of belles-lettres, occulta, facetiae, and philosophy…”

-from Memoirs by Charles Godfrey Leland (1893)

Godfrey’s Almanack is an archaistic digest of recipes, anecdotes, and travel guides which pays tribute to Leland’s many-splendoured life and writings. All issues are available on our “Almanack” page. For information about upcoming events and other offers, join our network here. The Almanack is produced by The Thinker’s Garden.

“I returned to the good old ghost-haunted paths…and so went elving and dreaming on ‘mid ruins old.”
